Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 15, 2026
ChessProfiler provides chess player profiles, game statistics, and related analysis based on publicly available chess data. We do not require user accounts and we do not knowingly collect names, email addresses, or other identity information from visitors in order to use the site.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information appears on the site about chess players, what limited technical information may be processed when someone visits the site, and how to contact us with questions.
2. Chess player data shown on the site
Profiles, ratings, games, and related statistics on ChessProfiler are derived from public sources, including:
- Canbase II (and related publicly available game archives);
- the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) website; and
- the FIDE website.
We use this information to display and analyze players and games for users of the site. ChessProfiler is not affiliated with Canbase, CFC, or FIDE, and those organizations control their own data and websites.
If you are a player and have a concern about information shown on ChessProfiler that originated from those public sources, please contact us at team@chessprofiler.com. We may also refer you to the relevant public source where appropriate.
3. Information about site visitors
We do not operate user registration, login, or customer profiles. We do not sell visitor personal information.
3.1 Hosting and server logs
Our website is hosted by a third-party hosting provider. Like most websites, the host may automatically collect standard technical data such as IP address, date and time of the request, pages or URLs requested, browser type / user agent, and other similar server-log information. We use hosting infrastructure to operate and secure the site. Retention and handling of server logs are also subject to the host's own practices and policies.
3.2 Cookies and session data
ChessProfiler uses a session cookie only so the site can remember, for your browsing session, which player profile you selected and related temporary display state. This helps the site work as you move between pages (for example, Summary, Openings, and Games). The session may last up to three days.
We do not use this cookie to identify you by name or email, and we do not use cookies for third-party advertising or tracking. Your browser may allow you to block or delete cookies; if you do, some site features may not work as expected.
3.3 What we do not intentionally collect from visitors
Unless you choose to email us, we do not ask visitors for name, email address, mailing address, payment information, or account passwords.
We do not currently use third-party advertising networks or third-party analytics tools on the site.
4. Communications you send us
If you email team@chessprofiler.com, we will receive whatever information you include in that message (for example, your email address and the content of your enquiry). We use that information only to respond to you and to handle related site administration.
5. How we use information
We use chess player data and visitor technical information as needed to:
- operate, maintain, and improve ChessProfiler;
- display profiles, games, and analyses;
- troubleshoot technical issues and protect the site against abuse; and
- respond to enquiries you send us.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Sharing of information
We may share information only in limited circumstances, such as with our hosting provider as needed to run the website, if required by law or lawful request, or if necessary to protect the rights, safety, or integrity of ChessProfiler, our users, or others.
We do not sell or rent visitor contact lists (we do not maintain such lists for general site use).
7. Retention
- Player/game data on the site is retained as part of ChessProfiler's public chess database and may change as source data is updated.
- Server logs are retained according to our host's configuration and operational needs.
- Emails you send us are retained as long as reasonably needed to respond and for ordinary business record-keeping.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the information processed in connection with it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's privacy
ChessProfiler is a general chess information site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for account or marketing purposes. Player names and game data may appear because they are published by public chess sources.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you should review the revised policy.
